Cheer to the Holidays! Get in the holiday spirit in Los Angeles, chasing the displays of lights and decorations. It doesn’t snow under the palm trees, but the Spirit is on for Christmas enthusiasts!
Last year, I explored three neighborhoods with decades-old decorating traditions. Come with me for a festival of lights!
Notes before visiting:
– Be respectful and mindful of communities, do not visit after 10 pm.
– As Candy Lane are informal display, decorations may vary year over year.

Wakefield Winter Wonderland – Santa Clarita
It is the best Candy Lane I visited so far in Los Angeles. In this neighborhood with two cul de sacs, each house is sparkling with a ton of lights. Decorations, styles, and themes are different from one home to another. Most of the owners are partying around cozy fire pits on their driveways. There are music and many animated decorations. Grab a hot cocoa and walk this shiny neighborhood. It’s definitely a fun evening with family and friends.
Pro tips:
– park a few blocks away (free street parking) as the traffic is dense for this event.
– It became a popular event over year. Visit on a weekday to avoid the crowd.

Upper Hastings Ranch – Pasadena
A community tradition since 1951!
Most visitors drive to see the entire neighborhood decorated. I recommend stretching your legs on a few blocks for an immersive experience. In 2021, it was not as bright as Wakefield Winter Wonderland as many houses didn’t participate. However, there were plenty of homes to enjoy with specific themes, Christmas inflatables, music, laser lights, etc. This community was quiet and pleasant.
Pro tips:
– A positive experience with neither crowd nor traffic!
– Free street parking if you are ready to walk

Candy Cane Lane – Woodland Hills
The holiday lights display started in 1952.
There are several blocks to stroll. One of my highlights was a giant vessel with Christmas skeletons. Or maybe it was the real steam locomotive? Some homeowners are playing the big game! Decorations are elaborated, impressive, and detailed. Don’t forget to add this candy lane to your list!
Pro tips:
– park a few blocks away (free street parking) as the traffic is dense for this event.
– Be cautious while walking as there is no pavement and a lot of traffic.
– It became a popular event over year. Visit on a weekday to avoid the crowd.
