Sculptures hunting in the largest state park in California. Track down artworks in this 1500-acre outdoor gallery and discover surprising creatures.
A large outdoor gallery
In 2008, landowner Dennis Avery commissioned local artist Ricardo Breceda to create sculptures for his Galleta Meadows Estate.

Inspired by this local environment, Ricardo Breceda’s artwork includes three themes: Anza-Borrego Desert’s history and nature, fossil treasures, whim, and fantasy.

Today, more than 130 metal sculptures are standing between the north and south side of Borrego Springs. You will have to drive to find them, and sometimes on sandy paths . Sculptures appear along the road and in the distance.

About the Artist
Born in Mexico, California-based artist Ricardo Breceda started metal sculptures creating a 20-foot T-Rex sculpture for his daughter. A passion was born for this cowboy boots salesman. The self-taught artist developed his skills, and created his studio a few miles south of Temecula (4395 White Mountain Rd, Aguanga, CA 92536).

If you are interested in his work, visit his outdoor art gallery, and meet him in person!
My Highlights
Dragon
The Dragon is one of the most impressive artworks. It is a 350 feet long sculpture crossing the road. This 129th artwork associates a Dragon’s head and a serpent’s body.

Horses
Located a few feet from the main road, horses appear like wild animals in the desert. There are multiple scenes to depict them in different situations: galloping, fighting, and escaping predators.
